These are the stories that came before Souls Unveiled had a name.

Same instinct, same questions. The show just gave it a home.

Documenting place, ritual, and the people who carry tradition

IDEATION OF SOULS UNVEILED – ART UNDER PRESSURE

A Kochi, India production team; Koothu Productions, and I captured the stories and artists in Kerala, India. I went to capture the unique artistic skills, cultural identity, and inspiration. What became clear was there was another layer to the story. The pressures of modernization, gender discrimination, unsaid caste system, and much more were impacting and driving their creations.

Enchanting lands where these rituals take place are shrinking due to development. Tourism is starting to reframe the ritual as a photo opportunity rather than a genuine transfer of spiritual and social authority. From that tension is what shifted this project from to Souls Unveiled: Art Under Pressure. Theyyam or other artistic performance aren't just a beautiful tradition. It's a case study in how sacred art forms carry real social function, and what gets lost when the economic and demographic forces around them make it harder to sustain. That's the thread running through every episode: art as a living response to pressure, not a static cultural artifact.

IMPLEMENTATION OF SOULS UNVEILED – ART UNDER PRESSURE

Uniting a talented team with creative excellence transformed the idea of Souls Unveiled into a docuseries that brought the pressures to the forefront.  The unparalleled talents of Lindsay Kent as Producer/Director and Gary Freilich as Executive Producer brought a refined and expansion vision. Our team headed to Sapmi; a region in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and western Russia, where Europe’s oldest recognized indigenous group; the Sámi, live.  The Sámi face pressure that keeps shapeshifting, from decades of forced assimilation to today's land disputes over dams and wind farms built on reindeer grazing territory.  Through artists and creative historians we captured the pressures that come from the same root as everywhere else in this series: outside forces reshaping who gets to define a culture's future.
